If you want to come to Australia to work you will need a visa that suits the type of work you intend to do.

Skilled Occupation Visas

There are two main options if you are in a skilled occupation category.

Option 1: You may be sponsored by an employer for a work visa.
Option 2: If your occupation is in demand in Australia, you may be selected as an independent migrant by a State/Territory and Australian Government to apply for a work visa. Some visa types are temporary, and there are also permanent skilled occupation work visas.

You are generally required to show that your skills meet the Australian standards to work in the relevant occupation. The first step is a skills assessment application so that your skills, experience, and qualifications are reviewed by a skills assessing authority. There are various skills assessing authorities, depending on your occupation, and they will determine whether you meet the Australian standards. If so, they then provide a skills assessment confirmation that is included with your visa application.

Seeking professional migration advice as a skilled person is recommended, as the occupations in demand and requirements change according to current conditions and regional needs in Australia, and a range of other requirements also apply to visa applications.
